CMS clarifies relief for providers impacted by Change Healthcare cyberattack; OHA sends letter to Sen. Lankford

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on Wednesday released additional information on the Medicare accelerated and advance payments that hospitals, physicians and others impacted by the Change Healthcare cyberattack may apply for through their Medicare Administrative Contractors. According to CMS, the MACs aim to review requests and notify most providers/suppliers of the outcome of their request within five business days of receipt.

Meanwhile this week, OHA sent a three-page letter to Sen. James Lankford’s office to request urgent assistance. The letter briefed Sen. Lankford on the dramatic impact the cyberattack has had on Oklahoma hospitals. OHA stated the need for CMS to temporarily waive its rule regarding advance payments to fee-for-service providers and the need for Optum/Change Healthcare and its parent company, United Healthcare, to be held accountable.

OHA has been working with Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready on the issue as well. OHA met with Mulready and his team to discuss the interruptions the cyberattack has caused our members.
